Activities/Ideas

  • Slime:

    • 1 cup soap flakes
    • 4 cups hot water

Dissolve the soap flakes in the hot water in a large bowl or bucket. add colour if desired and leave to stand for at least an hour. the resulting material will froth up if beaten, pours easily and is extremely slimy to touch. It keeps very well.

  • How to make bubble mix

    • 11 cups water
    • 1 cup dish liquid (sunlight or Palmolive)
    • ½ cup corn syrup

Stir carefully making sure not to foam up too much, best if left overnight.

Makes approx 3 litres, perfect in a bucket.

  • Corn syrup recipe

Bring all ingredients to boil, place lid on pot and simmer for 3 minutes, ready when dropped into a glass of water and drops to bottom of glass in soft ball.

  • Homemade Wet Wipes

    • 1 table spoon baby oil
    • 1 table spoon baby shampoo or baby wash
    • 2 cups boiled water
    • Viva Paper towels

Fold your paper towels in half and layer them in a used Wet Wipes container. Continue doing this until the container is full.

Mix all the ingredients, leaving the water until last. As the paper towels shrink you can add more paper towels. Add mixture slowly, half way turn the paper towels over so that the mixture is absorbed properly.

Great for at home, not so great in your child's bag as the mixture can drip out. Its a plus to know what the ingredients are and they stay nice and wet.

  • Make Your Own Stickers

    • 1 Packet unflavoured gelatin(125g)
    • Half a cup boiling water
    • 1 table spoon sugar
    • Half a teaspoon of vanilla essence
    • Small bowl
    • Sheets of white paper
    • Large Crayons
    • Scissors
    • Small paint brush

Mix Gelatine, boiling water, sugar and vanilla essence in a small bowl and set it aside to cool.

Have your child draw small colourful pictures on the paper using crayons or felt pens. Cut out the pictures, paint the backs with the gelatine mixture, and set out to dry.

When your child is ready to use the stickers, have them lick the backs and apply them to a piece of paper.

Testimonials

"We love dropping our little boy off at Karen's. Karen has a beautiful heart and she cares for our son with warmth and compassion. We view Karen as a treasured part of our family and we feel lucky to have met such a wonderful person! Our child is experiencing so many fantastic opportunities to grow and learn from with Karen, and he loves spending his time with the other children as well. He enjoys the outings they share and going to BJ's playgroup......like the Teddy Bear's picnic they had last week! Karen also takes them bushwalking to the local waterfall and they explore other exciting places. We especially appreciate how Karen always shares his day with us, and we love hearing about the little treasured moments that make up our son's day. Our family is so appreciative of such a wonderful standard of care within a home environment. Thank you, Karen, and thank you BJ's Homebased Childcare, we are loving this experience with you!"Regards A Very Happy Parent
